At The Zephyr Theatre
For the following events, tickets are available online at stillwaterzephyrtheatre.org or at the door. Unless noted, all events will be held at The Zephyr Theatre, 601 Main St. N. in Stillwater.
Frank Capra’s “It’s a Wonderful Life,” a story about dreams, sacrifice, and redemption in small town America, will be presented Fridays, Dec. 7 and 14, at 7 p.m.; Saturdays, Dec. 8 and 15, at 2 and 7 p.m.; and Sundays, Dec. 9 and 16, at 7 p.m.
The show will be produced at The Zephyr Theatre in collaboration with CrossWinds Community Church of Stillwater, and is directed by Calyssa Hall, The Zephyr Theatre’s Artistic Director. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students. A limited 80 seats per show are available, and seat assignments will be awarded in the order they are received. Tickets will be at the box office on each performance date with the reserved seat numbers.
Brian Wicklund, bandleader of the Barley Jacks, and Mike Cramer, flatpick guitar champion, will present a bluegrass concert on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20.
Film nights are on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, presented by the St. Croix Film Society at The Zephyr Theatre. Each film event includes a 6 p.m. social hour with free popcorn (donations appreciated). The Nov. 28 feature is “The Godfather” at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5.
Dance nights consist of swing dancing with a live band on the first Tuesday of each month, ballroom dancing on the second Tuesday, and country two-step folk dancing on the third Tuesday. Dance nights start with instruction at 7 p.m., followed by dancing from 8 to 10 p.m. for swing and folk, and 8:30 to 10 p.m. for ballroom. Tickets are $10.
“An Evening of Tantalizing Songs to Thrill the Spirit” will be presented Monday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. This event will showcase 12 singers, ages 13 to adult, performing musical theatre pieces and art songs. The performers are students of Megan Wagner Floan and Obed Floan, professional singers who offer voice lessons in collaboration with The Zephyr Theatre. Tickets are $5. Donations are also appreciated to support performing arts education at the theatre.
Theatre arts classes
The Zephyr Theatre offers classes for all ages, including improvisation, dance, acting techniques, musical theatre, scene study, and creative playmaking. Classes are held at The Zephyr Studio, Brick Alley Building, 421 Main St. S., Suite 421D, Stillwater. For class schedules and fees visit stillwaterzephyrtheatre.org.
Art gallery exhibit
The November-December art exhibit features 49 paintings and drawings, available for purchase, by Lena Wolf Rothman of Stillwater. She is trained in the classical, Dutch, and Flemish techniques of painting and drawing, and her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. This exhibit also includes English enamel and porcelain boxes from Limoges, France, dated from the 18th century to the present. These boxes are from a private Stillwater collection.
The gallery is curated by Teary O’Hara, a member of The Zephyr Theatre’s board of trustees, and is open to the public during performances on evenings and weekends. Artists who wish to be considered for a future exhibit may contact O’Hara at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Fund raising campaign to expand the performing arts center
The Zephyr is a professional theatre company campaigning to raise $4 million to add a 330-seat auditorium for theatre productions, concerts, dance performances, films, and more.
Planned renovations also include creating a bakery in the existing space, and converting a Zephyr train car into an outdoor snack shop along Brown’s Creek State Trail behind the building.
Donors of The Zephyr Theatre receive various levels of public recognition and invitations to VIP Zephyr events. The theatre company is a nonprofit organization and all gifts are tax-deductible. For more information about making donations, visit stillwaterzephyrtheatre.org.
