A Shakespeare Playground is offered as a fun and engaging way for people who want to break through trepidation that the Shakespeare aura often creates. What is he saying? Why does that speech go on for a whole page? How does it tie together? What is going on? To unravel these and other mysteries of negotiating the plays, the workshop will have three themes. First, as an ensemble, we will use improvisation and movement to unravel rich and often confusing poetic imagery; second, practical, take-away lessons and practice in several of the verse structures commonly found in the plays; and third, applying those techniques to monologue and scene work. Adult actors and non-actors of any age who are interested in exploring Shakespeare’s rich imagery and language play are encouraged to jump in with a playful heart! Participants are welcome to bring material for coaching and feedback. Dress for movement.
