Backstage at the Z – Edition 1 – April 1, 2020

Executive Director's Note

Hello, everyone!  Welcome to our brand-new newsletter, Backstage at the Z.

Community and connection are important.  We are so looking forward to gathering back together, as soon as it is safe for us to do so after the COVID-19 health crisis, to share experiences and art in person.

In the meantime (and forevermore after), we want to share with you here what is happening at The Zephyr, what volunteers and staff are working on, and what we are planning for the future.

We hope you enjoy this periodic newsletter and that it brings you a sense of things to come.  I am looking forward to finding many new and creative ways to connect with our patrons, donors, and volunteers -- all those who have truly become our Zephyr family.

Be safe and healthy and well.

-- Calyssa Hall

Sponsor Spotlights and How to Support Them

Many of our sponsors are owners of restaurants in the downtown area.  At this time, they are part of the "Great Valley Take-Out Rally" initiative, which has been an amazing example of how our community has come together.

Joseph Kohler, of Joseph's Family Restaurant and who has sponsored multiple shows, has allowed us to sell his delicious pie and has advertised for us this past year.  They deserve whatever support you can provide to their business.

Joe Ehlenz, who donated money to help us buy our events tent, is doing take-out service from LOLOs.

The Dock Café has supported us in several ways, including donating food for one of our events!  They just joined the curbside pick-up program.

Acapulco Mexican Restaurant is a continuing source of support, helping with a bag drive and donating food, along with Sam Leon being a wonderful spokesperson for us.  Get your cheese dip fix here!

Candyland is always willing to work with us on getting treats for events!  They are there for your sugar or popcorn craving!  Curbside pick-up available.

Lift Bridge Brewery is a very special partner with us and is working to help us make even more artistic dreams come true.  They are taking OFF SALE curbside pick-up orders.

Leo’s Grill & Malt Shop has been incredibly generous donating to us over the years, including their delicious ice cream for our annual 4th of July Ice Cream Social in honor of veterans and our community.  They are open for curbside pick-up.  Who wants to grab a burger?

MatchStick has very kindly partnered with us in the past on our music events.  You might not be able to sit at their awesome bar, but you can still order food or gift cards.

No-Neck Tony’s is not currently serving, but they are working on live-streaming music events to lift your spirits!  The have certainly lifted ours in the past with their generosity.

Rose Floral was so generous this last year by donating funds which made our Secret Garden production gorgeous, along with supporting us through donated floral arrangements for special events.  Let them help you keep your house beautiful while you are spending more time at home.  They are doing same-day delivery.

Arrow Building Center has helped us build beautiful sets for our productions.  They are still ready to deliver any materials you might need for your at-home projects.

Patio Town was very generous in donating the materials needed to rebuild our building’s accessibility ramps.  They remain open and able to deliver materials for any landscaping needs you have at home.

The Socially Distant Three Musketeers

Making the Magic

We've been working hard until late Friday night renovating different areas of the theatre while there are no events taking place.

Trust that things will be looking great by the time we are all able to gather together again!

Your Story

"Share Your Tales of the Times" is a place for everyone to come together to share their thoughts, feelings, sightings, pains, hopes, and perspectives in paragraph, essay, poem, play, or ramblings.

The goal of the project is two-fold:

  • To provide a gathering place to record and share comments about this moment in history.
  • To preserve them and reshape them into theatre.

Calyssa explains, "There is an important immediacy to this slice of history, and expressing strong feelings outside of yourself is a way to heal.  Please share your thoughts.  We want this to be something the entire community takes part in.”
