The Zephyr Studio - Fall Classes

Musical Theatre Training Program – Level 1

Fridays (September 29-December 8): 4:30pm-6:30pm (10 Sessions – No class November 24)
Grades: 5-12
Fee: $185

Explore what it takes to become a triple threat on the musical theatre stage! We will be exploring vocal technique and production, acting for a large audience, and complex choreography. This class will conclude with a special showcase performance.

Musical Theatre Training Program – Level 2

For students who have previously taken “Musical Theatre” and are ready to take their singing and performance skills to the next level! We will also be exploring the joy and excitement of specific types of dance for this class by adding elements of tap and ballet to classic musical theatre songs. Tap shoes are required, but no tap experience is necessary. This class will conclude with a special showcase performance.

Improvisation Troupe

Mondays (September 25-December 4): 6:30pm-8:30pm (10 Sessions – No class November 20)
Grades: 7-12

Introduction to improv comedy! Over the course of ten weeks, students will learn how to play a variety of short-form improv games. Similar to “Who’s Line is it Anyway?”, students will learn how to think on their feet, support each other, think more creatively, listen better, and build scenes! The semester will conclude with a local show to demonstrate their newfound skills.

Audition Prep Workshop!

Are you ready to move out of the chorus and into a lead role? Learn how to master a monologue, sparkle on your song, and perfect your stage presence. An individualized approach to better audition skills!

Black and White Movie

Sundays (October 1-December 10): 6:00pm-8:30pm (10 Sessions – No class November 26)

We will work together throughout the semester to create our very own black and white silent movie! Learn from the masterful performances of Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, and Greta Garbo. Relive the glamour and excitement of the silver screen while developing powerful acting and physical comedy skills. This class will conclude with a special premier party.

Playwriting 101

Sundays (October 1-December 10): 3:00pm-5:00pm (10 Sessions – No class November 26)
Grades: 6-12
Fee: $165

Do you want to write a play, but don’t know where to start?  Or do you want to develop your skills further?  In this class you’ll be able to take an idea from concept to finished one-act play, while experimenting with different genres and writing styles!  We’ll also explore how to develop believable characters, strong plot lines, and engaging scenes that will capture an audience! This class will conclude with a special reader’s theatre performance in downtown Stillwater.

Creative Playmaking

A magical, playful, and delightful introduction to theatre, music, and movement! Building confidence and creativity take center stage! This class will conclude with a short showcase performance.

Set sail on the high seas! Rehearsals will take place Thursdays from 6:30pm-8:30pm. (September 28 – December 7, Tech week – December 12, 13, 14). Fee – $180

Frog and Toad

The Zephyr Play-Actors Present – “A Year with Frog and Toad”

This whimsical show follows two great friends – the cheerful, popular Frog, and the rather grumpy Toad – through four fun-filled seasons. Rehearsals will take place Thursdays from 4:30pm-6:00pm. (September 28 – December 7, Tech week December 12, 13, 14). Fee – $180

Performance dates/times will be announced shortly and ticket sales will be open to family, friends, and the general public!

Meet the Instructors!

Calyssa Hall

Calyssa Hall is a resident of Afton, Minnesota, and has worked for many years as a freelance director, stage manager, musician, production coordinator, lighting designer, and technician for professional and community theatres throughout the greater Twin Cities area. She graduated Summa Cum Laude in music and musical theatre from the University of Wisconsin – River Falls. Ms. Hall has taught drama in the Stillwater Area School District and has directed community education theatre programs in Inver Grove Heights and South St. Paul. In 2013, she founded the company that is now known as Only a Dim Image Productions and will further its mission through the creation of The Zephyr Theatre.

Jeannie Pacolt

Jeannie Pacolt lives in Hudson, WI, with her husband Gary. As a performer, she started dance in her teens, in ballet and with a strong emphasis in jazz. Jeannie, with another dancer, initiated the dance program at the Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson, where she has taught, choreographed, performed, and orchestrated recitals. She then focused on dancing and performing with various studios in the Twin Cities. For several years, she worked extensively with Scott Grossman, a well-known dancer, choreographer, and actor from L.A. She performed, under his direction, in the 1992 Super Bowl Halftime show as a main dancer with Gloria Estefan.

Cassidy Hall

Cassidy Hall is a student at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls, pursuing degrees in Creative Writing, Music, and Musical Theatre. She works as the director for ACT Theater in the South Saint Paul Tri-District, as a writing tutor for UW-River Falls, and as a professional photographer. Cassidy has been actively involved with theatre for many years, performing with the Phipps Center for the Arts, CB Productions, Stillwater Community Theatre, Woodbury Community Theatre, and various companies in the Twin Cities. She is trained in acting, singing, and dance, including ballroom, jazz, contemporary, and tap. In addition to performing on stage, she has also worked backstage for many productions as stage manager, director’s assistant, deck captain, light/sound board operator, and prop master.

Cindy Thompson

Cindy Thompson has been a piano and voice educator for 32 years, with a studio of more than 50 students each week, in all ages from child to adult. She teaches all genres of music including musical theater, classical, and jazz, in both voice and piano. In theater, she works as a vocal coach for performers in community and high school theaters throughout the Twin Cities and Wisconsin. She has also acted as music director and orchestra master for several local theater productions, including The Music Man, Annie, Nunsense, 101 Dalmatians, and Bye Bye Birdie. As a classically trained singer, Cindy has performed as a soloist for several choirs and churches in the Twin Cities area and was the staff soloist at the Basilica of St Mary in Minneapolis. As a jazz singer, she has toured as a soloist with the Contemporary Christian group New Song Singers, and performed as lead vocalist with a jazz combo for the Presbyterian Churches. On stage, she has appeared as a principal performer in productions at various community theaters, including Nunsense, Gigi, The Music Man, Misbehavin’, Nuncrackers, and The Sound of Music.

Robin Conama

Robin Conama has been choreographing for ten years for various theatres, projects, and studios. Some of her favorites include Hello Dolly, Peter Pan, The Music Man, and You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, among others. She has also enjoyed other aspects of theater including sound and lighting, dancing, and singing. She is a graduate of St. Paul Conservatory For Performing Artists and trained under Maggie Bergeron, Joe Chvala, Cathy Wind, Ellen Keane, Karen Paulson Rivet, and so many more. She enjoys working with the elderly in Recreational and Music Therapy and at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival as a musician and vocalist.

Bill Hupp

Bill Hupp is a St. Paul resident, actor, and improvisation comedian who has performed with numerous companies in the last several years. He returned to his native Chicagoland and coached high school and college speech teams from 2011-2014, before settling in Minnesota. A copywriter by day, Bill is currently a member of local improv troupe Fantastic Voyage and plays every Wednesday night in Anoka.

Randal Berger BWRandal Berger

Randal Berger (SAG-AFTRA/AEA) has worked professionally as an actor, director, producer and educator since 1988. He received his BFA from Texas Christian University and thereafter began his career in Dallas/Ft. Worth. Since moving to the Twin Cities in 1991 Randal has performed on stage at The Old Log, The Ordway, The Fitzgerald, The Music Box, Pillsbury House, The Margolis Brown Company, The Minneapolis Theatre Garage, and The Playwright’s Center. He has also produced, performed and directed productions for the MN Fringe Festival. He is a founding member of The Burning House Group Theater Company (BHG) and has performed, directed, produced and taught with them since 1994.
